The Inner Life, Society and the Artist
Deborah Ravetz
An Introduction and an Exchange Exploring the Themes Embodied in the Following Quotation:
"I realise that I have little optimism for the ability of our society to deal with climate change in terms of conventional, political and technological ideas. This is because our society's capacity to have a rich and authentic inner life has been historically eviscerated… my view of what we most need now… is a rekindling of the inner life. I therefore see a huge role for the artist in every sense of that word in the transition process. We need to see prophetic art – including poetry, music activism… to get right to the one true function of the artist to point towards the soul."
